Anthony Foruria - Valentine’s Day
LYRICS
Would you be surprised if I told you
I wasn’t such a hit with the girls?
Well don’t looked so shocked, I promise it’s true
I get more and more lonely as my story unfurls
And every year, after two weeks in February
All the songs on the radio change, and people get loud and scary
I could join in with all the single folk,
Sings songs and eat chocolate and get sad and cry
But to be honest, that sort of music makes me choke
So I’ll keep my head held high
Let me tell you why
I’m glad I’m single on Valentine’s Day
I can look at the girls I want
It doesn’t bother me, in fact I’m glad it’s this way
I don’t understand why the 14th is so daunting
Why would I want to spend the day
Crying or deciding I’m suddenly gay?
It’s just another day in the life, and to be honest
I don’t need the strife, hey hey
I saw a girl at college who I really kinda liked
So I set myself a goal, I said ‘I’ve got to meet her’
But when Valentine’s finally came around and I’d done bugger all
I just went home and my mum said ‘I’ve got you pizza’
See, that’s just the thing, I don’t need a girl, cos if you really know me,
You’d know I’d rather have the evening to myself, eating cheese and pepperoni
So I’m glad I’m single on Valentine’s Day
I don’t need to bother with dates
I mean, I look forward to a life with kids and a wife
But I think that for now that can wait
Any evening with a girl, no matter how grand
Is spend just as well with my own right hand
It’s just another day in the life, and to be honest
I don’t need the strife, hey hey
I’ve got a massive problem with the card-giving industry
In fact, let’s be honest, it makes me sick
If you need a piece of paper to express how you feel
Then you don’t even deserve to have a girlfriend, you dick
I’m not being cynical, I promise you that
I’m still an old romantic and I really love love
But if you’re in a relationship you don’t need a calendar
To give you an extra push or shove
If I had someone to love and adore
I would tell them every day
But that’s not the case, so I’ll cheer myself up
By writing a song about what’s wrong with other people’s relationships
Roses are red
Violets are blue
I don’t need a girlfriend
And neither do you
I’m glad I’m single on Valentine’s day
Really, I mean it, I promise I’m not lonely
I’m just holding out till the magical day
When I meet my one and only
You can tell me all you want is dinner and a film
But really, what you’ve got in mind is casual sex, and that’s okay, you know? I mean, it’s not like we can fight our primal urges, just don’t try and pin what you do, or who you do, to a certain day every year, it couldn’t matter less.
It’s just another day in the life, and to be honest
I don’t need the strife, hey hey
And maybe if meet someone in May or June,
then on this day next year, I’ll sing a different tune
But for now, I’m glad I’m single on Valentine’s day.
